MRCI and Putting Green are working together on a sustainable small-scale farming operation that employs MRCI clients and area youth, yields healthful produce for area consumers, and provides an innovative landscape for learning, drawing visitors from around the region.
The produce grown on the farm is made available to the community through CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) membership.
Membership benefits:
- Variety- you will receive a variety of pre-selected produce in a weekly box. Most will be familiar to you – things like lettuce, carrots, potatoes, onions, tomatoes, etc. Some may be new to you – things like eggplant, kohlrabi, Swiss chard – but those will be in lesser quantities, and you get helpful serving ideas. Fresh herbs will also be available.
- Local Produce – locally grown produce tastes fresher and is packed with nutrition; keeps more money in our community; and is good for the Earth (reduces fossil fuel consumption)
- Chemical-free Produce – herbicide and pesticide free produce is better for you as well as the Earth. Chemicals used in agriculture negatively impact soil health, water quality and the health of the farm laborers exposed to them.
- First pick – members are our priority. After member boxes are filled with their weekly share, excess produce may be available for purchase. Some items are grown in a limited quantity and will only be available to members.
- Supports the project – paying up front through a CSA membership enables us to cover our pre-season costs and ensures us of a stable market for the produce grown.
- Need more reasons? – Recipes and suggestions on how to incorporate healthy vegetables into your diet. Events – look for some fun things to do with food and your fellow members. Swap table – exchange items you don’t want for ones you do.
