- Putting Green's Growing Green Farm
-
MRCI and Putting Green are working together on a sustainable small-scale farming operation that employs MRCI clients and area youth, yields healthful products for area consumers, and provides an innovative landscape for learning, drawing visitors from around the region.
In 2008, the two-acre commercial enterprise was created, providing fresh produce, herbs, and flowers. Located at the Center, Growing Green is a collaborative project with MRCI WorkSource, the largest provider of community-based supported employment in Minnesota, serving more than 3,000 people with disabilities in Southern Minnesota.
This past year, with MRCI clients as our fantastic farmers, Growing Green provided food for restaurants, group homes, the New Ulm Medical Center, and the Food Shelf. In addition, 45 CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) members bought a subscription for the season and received fresh vegetables weekly.
